Enough
i-ˈnəf ē-, ə- adjective : occurring in such quantity, quality, or scope as to fully meet demands, needs, or expectations
Is it my algorithm or is enough having a moment?
Everywhere I go, everything I read, enough is there—an objective to meet, a promise kept, a reality that exists.
Are you prepared enough? Smart enough? Thin enough? Good enough? Have you saved enough? Done enough? Enough to go around. Always enough. Never enough. You are enough. Enough is enough. Enough said.
Yet, who feels enough? Do you? Should I? Even the wealthiest strive for more; the most beautiful, talented, intelligent, athletic, experienced, educated, you-name-it positive attribute aren’t satisfied or satisfying enough, it seems.
Demi Moore, one of the most well known, highly paid actresses of my generation, recently acknowledged how enough—or, rather a sense of lacking it—decimated her sense of accomplishment and purpose. Someone generations of women have held as an ideal and legions of actors have looked up to didn’t see or feel it in herself. Is there hope for any of us?
Enough is my word for 2025. Unlike choices of previous years, it’s less about aspiration or affirmation than understanding. How does this seemingly simple word and concept cause so much angst, conflict and lack?
I haven’t figured that out yet, but I wonder if Demi is onto something. Perhaps we can only experience enough when we’re not measuring.
